After researching my available choices, I purchased this scanner in order to digitize my awfully big collection of magazines. I have a very good paper cutter I purchased on eBay that allows me to cut a half inch off the side of the magazines removing the binding and any of the associated binding glues or staples. Getting this clean cut is necessary to do high volume scan feeds of magazines. I scan everything directly into Adobe Acrobat. I already had Acrobat Pro, but this scanner comes with Acrobat Standard which is all you need to do beautiful, fully rendered high quality color scans into PDF.

This Fujitsu scanner has a very small footprint compared to my lumbering Brother multi-function machine which has the ability to do auto-feeds for scanning as well, but don't let the size deceive you because this performs at a much higher level than any cheaper consumer scanner.

I looked for an alternative to the Brother because I need to scan about 2000 magazines and with a duplex feeder it would take me years the Brother is that slow. But this Fujitsu is a champ! It scans on both sides of the page at the same time so none of that laborious back feeding you see with a duplex feeder is necessary.

It zips through in a few seconds, recognizes both sides in a few seconds and then its on to the next page. It feeds about a dozen color double-sided magazine pages a minute which is 24 pages. A whole magazine therefore feeds in 3-5 minutes. I scan them at 400 DPI which results in crisp color images and very readable text.

After it feeds, I let the OCR program run so my text is searchable. This character recognition process is optional, but I consider it very important for my future digital archives which I will be able to then index and search. This OCR process takes three times longer than the actual scanning. Altogether, the scans and then the optical recognition of a 100-128 page color magazine may take 15-20 minutes. With a regular auto-feed scanner, it would take 3 hours and it would not be done as well. When scanning into PDF, remember to use Acrobat's PDF Optimization procedure which condenses the file size of the PDF by 40-70% without any noticeable loss in quality.

I am very impressed with the efficiency of this scanner and I am very happy it is enabling me to put two decades worth of archival material into high quality PDFs. I will no longer have to lug 20 boxes of magazines with me when I move. They will all be archived on a few DVDs. I'd say this scanner is worth every penny I paid for it. I did not see anything comparable. If you want to do anything like what I'm doing with PDFs, I'd encourage you to get this scanner. It's a workhorse. In the first two weeks, I've scanned 100 magazines flawlessly.

Before i buy this, i researched many reviews and saw actual models at the stores.
Let me say this.
This printer is really easy to set up. easy to set up wirelessly if u just follow the instruction manual. you cant go wrong unless you dont now about computer. This is very noisy unit when you start printing. overall really good buy. I've using samsung laser printer and had refilled the toner but somehow it is not printing well. the fonts are not dark enuf. so i decided to purchase new one rather than getting new toner or fixing it. I compared this one w/ lexmark and canon.
The reason i chose this one over canon is b/c for canon, their color ink ran out even thought you did not really use color ink. Their answer will be "even for black and white, they use color ink for contrast" or something like that.
The reason i chose this one over lexmark is b/c lexmark, their original ink price is really good compare to any other brands. U know how these days printers are cheap and inks are expensive. lexmark ink price is really good but lexmark, they dont allow other companies to make their ink for them. so it is not easy to find their ink unless you go to staples or frys. ink is not that expensive compare to other brands but....

I know most of your biggest concern is the cost of ink long run. right? i know epson has this chip on their cartridge so u cant refill.

however, there is many online store that sell refillable cartridge or chipper ink for epson. I know it is always best to use from epson original brand but...cost too much.

About duplexing, u dont wanna get duplexing printer anything below $1,000 at least. There is a reason that companies that they dont make auto duplexing. It jams very easily and eventually it will damage your printer and everything. So actually i like manual duplexing over auto duplexing.

After reading several reviews we ordered this printer. I must say it surpassed our expectations...it was noisier than expected and shook more than we expected! Both had been listed in other reviews as cautions.
We wanted a more durable printer after going through numerous "throwaway"printers. I find this unit to be well built and has a high capacity. I like that we can send files wirelessly to print.
The color image is lesser quality than I expected. I assume there are things I can do to improve that or perhaps we just have bad cartridges. I must admit I missed the "shake several times" note on the print cartidge. Once it was in I was fearful of removing it and shaking an open cartidge. Read carefully all of the setup notes!
Black and White seems to have good contrast and prints quickly.

Customer support was prompt, and said that this was caused by the ribbon separating from the tape inside the cassette. They said this happens if the cutter is pressed before the printing is done, or if the tape is pulled manually out of the machine (I didn't do either). They said it can't be fixed and I need to trash the tape (this was the sample that came with the machine). I'm reluctant to pay $20 for new tape, for a machine in which I have little confidence.

This pen looks pretty darn spiffy, but that is about all. The led light is pretty bright and the laser light is pretty good as well. The top part is where the batteries are stored and sadly it doesn't stay on too well. The screw place is too small and narrow and doesn't hold the top on tightly. It came off a few times and I have gone through all my batteries already (comes with 3 extra, uses 3 at a time).

The ink started to fade rather quickly and can't be used in any cooler conditions (I take inventory in walk-in fridges that are around 40 degrees F, and the pen just doesn't work there). The twisting mechanism is great but the fit is poor, it is really loose and doesn't seem to "lock" in place like you think it should.

This is an okay pen but I would not recommend it. it seems to be fairly hard to find a pen with a laser and light that works well. There are some great pens out there with LED lights (doctor pens) and with laser pointers that are more powerful, but it seems all of them together just never seems to work. I previously used a Microsoft remote Model 1039 gray in color ( until it stopped working ) with my media center . The initial impression of this remote are very good . I didn't end up needing the receiver that came with this remote , It works just fine with my original Microsoft receiver ( with the longer cord ) . Combo was bought to provide background music/talk to sleep by and extra phone to save steps. Tiny on/off buttons difficult to locate in the dark. Since I live close to a toll road, I'm told that the occasional loud indescribable electrical sounding noises that wake me during the night are perhaps caused by semi drivers with powerful CBs that my radio filter can't handle. WHAT I EXPERIENCED...
I purchased this printer from Office Max in November 2009 based on the high praise on Amazon and other sites.
When I got it, I immediately printed a color brochure. Right away, I noticed the colors were washed out and weak. I thought maybe it was the paper, so I tried new paper. No luck. I thought maybe it needed to warm up, so I printed 100 copies of my brochure. No luck. I tried every single color setting - changed the color from normal to vidid, changed the resolution to 2400dpi - all without any luck.

Furthermore, I tried printing the "demo" - it looks great! But, all of my documents look awful when I print them. Seems like the printer is set to print normally for the demo, and then it's set to use 20% of the ink during normal use.

COMPARED WITH A SIMILAR HP PRINTER...
I then printed my brochure on a similarly priced HP printer. The color on the HP was SO MUCH better! Side by side the colors off the brother are washed out and weak. Try it yourself.

A SECOND CHANCE
I had OfficeMax replace the printer. The second printer had the same exact issue - dull, washed out prints.

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION IF YOU'RE STUCK WITH THIS PRINTER
After fussing around for about an hour in Photoshop, I found a solution that makes the print quality 50% better (but not nearly as good as an HP). If you're stuck with the Brother here are some steps that might help you.

- Open your file or document with Photoshop. If you have a word document or other document, print it to PDFRedirect, save it at highest quality, and then open the PDF with Photoshop.
- Change your color settings to CMYK (Image-Mode->CMYK)
- Go to File->Print
- On the right, under color settings, Choose "Photoshop Managed Colors"
- Next, click on "Page setup", which brings up the Brother menu
- Under the Advanced tab, change Print Quality to Fine (2400 dp class), then change Color Mode to Vivid.

These steps should brighten up your document a bit. This is something I don't have to do with the HP - it automatically adjusts colors and looks great every time. I honestly don't have time to do this every time I need to print something, so I'm returning this printer.

THE FINAL ANSWER
I do believe that either Brother is submitting fraudulent reviews, or the people purchasing this printer have never seen what other color laser printers produce. Overall the print quality is too much of a con for me to keep this printer. If you are having trouble getting the wireless to connect, it is probably due to firewall software on your computer. I ordered this and the 3M MPro 120 to compare them, and for me the MPro was the better choice. The menu select wheel on the Optoma seems to be very tempermental (hard to select what you want) and in a bad location relative to where the unit connects to the computer. I had this connected to my MacBook and I had to manually change the display resolution to get the projector to work. The final straw for me was that the internal storage and video player - a GREAT option if they can get it to work for Mac users - requires a proprietary video encoder that you download to your computer that didn't seem to want to install on a Mac with Snow Leopard OS.

The Optoma is smaller, cheaper, and brighter than the 3M projector, and I do like the styling of the unit better than the 3M projector, but if you're a Mac user you may want to consider other options.

Without specific reason it started running all right and I was able to get about entire 35 mm film scanned. Since it became late in the night, I closed the scanning business for the night, enjoying perspective of laborious weekend. I purchased the base station and 4 additional cordless phones from Amazon this past summer. I selected this model because we have two lines coming into our home; the first line is for family and the second line for business.

The good news is that the audio quality is excellent, the range is impressive (work perfectly over our 5 acre hobby farm), and they go for weeks without recharging, the intercom function works well, and they could not have been easier to setup.

The bad news is base station and the cordless phones selection of assignable ring tones do not match, at all. You also have to program them into each phone one at a time. If someone changes their phone number and you want their ring tone to follow them, you must edit their profile on every cordless.

Another problem is when the phone rings at night, the numbers light up, but the answer button does not, and it is small and hard to sense by touch, making it necessary to turn on the light, which does not go over well with ones mate.

This product is not ready for market, and definitely NOT what I would expect from a heretofore well respected company like Panasonic.

I would have sent them back had I not mistakenly recycled their boxes.

The unit I received was defective and had to be returned as the picture would flicker, however for what I was able to tell about the picture quality, it is just not there. This printer is very pretty and the cartridges for it are really cheap, but it doesn't get very many pages per cartridge and when I tried to install it on my Windows 7 machine, following the instructions that came with the printer didn't work. It says not to plug in the printer until you've installed the software, but the disk that comes with the printer does not have Windows 7 drivers. I was going to send the printer back until I tried just plugging it into the computer and letting it go. Luckily the computer was smart enough to find drivers for the printer without the disk.

Once the printer was installed and I tried to print something, I noticed the printer takes its good sweet time printing things, so if you're looking for something super speedy you may want to look elsewhere.

Also note: THIS PRINTER DOES NOT COME WITH THE USB CABLE TO CONNECT IT TO THE COMPUTER! This printer does not have wireless capability so you need the cable to use the printer.

I didn't see that before I bought it. Luckily I had an extra cord lying around, but others may not be so lucky.

This is a nice phone. We went to Best Buy and found a couple of models we liked before buying. I looked for weight, size & style. I didn't want something that felt hollow & cheap and didn't go from my ear to my mouth..I have a cell for for that :). This met all 3 criteria, HOWEVER; I could kick myself for not noticing at BB that there is no earphone jack because I NEVER sit with a phone to my ear. I'm always puttering around while I'm on the phone, earpiece in, clipped to my side....household chores and such, so this was a HUGE con for me & why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Also, no battery backup. I have had to reset the date/time on it twice, without having lost power, so I don't know if it's THAT sensitive that a power surge will undo the clock -if that's even what happened. To me, those are 2 basic features ---hands-free ability & battery backup--- that I guess I assumed all phones today have. Not everyone likes blue tooth. There was a Vtech phone with blue tooth, but I didn't want it because of prior experience.
Anyway, if those 2 things are unimportant to you, then this is a really nice phone. It's predecessor was an AT&T which I assumed would be of higher quality, but was in fact a piece of crap, from construction to sound. The sound alone on this phone is worth the 4 stars. That's why I didn't return it..I looked on Vtech's website and didn't see one that featured the jack...just a blue tooth one, so this will do. I originally purchased an HP wireless printer at a Black Friday Sale. It worked for all of one day. Would not communicate with other computers in the house, wouldn't scan or print unless you hooked it up with a USB cord (I have since heard this is a big problem with HP wireless printers). They couldn't figure out the problem either and said they would consult with their "next tier support" and call me the next day. They never called and the printer went back. I admit I was not sure it would be as easy to set up as they said after dealing with the HP. Was I in for a surprise. Within 30 minutes I had two computers working wirelessly with the Epson printer. The print quality is unbelievable. I didn't find it noisy as others have posted. Printed very quickly from cold start up. Haven't really tried scanning with it or copying on both sides but it's not something I use that much anyway. I'll play with those features later. The paper tray is kind of cheap, could be a better quality. The on printer display is large and easy to read and is extremely user friendly. Would have been nice if it had a fax but again, not a big deal for me. It is a little larger and heavier than other printers I've owned but this is not an issue for me. I've worked with 3 different Franklin electronic dictionaries over the last 15 years including an older Language Master and a Bookman unit that supports book cards. Compared to these units, the SCD-2100 was quite a departure in terms of form factor but the basic interface remains familiar and intuitive. The first thing that jumps out at me is just how tiny it is! The pictures don't do a good job representing the size...the unit is only about 4 inches wide. Despite the small size, however, the keys don't really feel any smaller and the screen is actually much larger and higher-resolution than the old 3-line display models. Also, compared to the old versions, the SCD-2100 is also very speedy when it comes to spelling corrections and normal operations.

Unfortunately, the fit and finish feels cheap and it takes considerable effort to even put the battery cover on properly. (If you don't put in on just right, it will interfere with the opening and closing of the screen past vertical.) I also noticed that the plastic casing doesn't feel very rigid, so I wonder how long it will survive in a backpack. Considering how much this thing costs, it's disappointing that the old units appear to be better in this respect. My final complaint is that the speaker isn't particularly loud, though there is a headphone jack.

The SCD-2100 has a very long feature-list and a few surprises that I did not expect. The main reason I bought this was for the Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, which in my opinion, provides vastly richer definitions for many more words compared to lesser models. (Instead of generic single-word definitions, the Collegiate version enables me to appreciate the nuances between similar words.)

It appears that in an effort to slap on as many features as possible, this device has now become pretty travel friendly. In addition to its small size and basic 5-language translator (English/Spanish/Italian/French/German), the unit also performs basic unit conversions (temperature/weight/liquid volume/lengths) and has calculator that can do currency conversions. (There's also functionality for inverses and square roots...) The only annoyance with so many operating modes is that more button presses are required to get to where you want to be. For example, to look up a word, you need to first power up the unit and then select the dictionary from the menu (which is thankfully at the top). Franklin has made an effort to alleviate this however, with the use of 5 function keys that allow you to switch between modes without going to the menu, though you cannot program the keys.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the device. Performance is much improved compared to previous models and is several times faster than using the Collegiate Dictionary on a book-card. Also, the new small form factor doesn't really compromise on screen-size or quality.

For people like my wife and I, who are using primarily our laptops over the wireless network, this printer turned out to be the perfect addition.
Setup was very easy, instructions were clear and in less than 30 min we could print from our laptops and in reverse could scan photos and documents to our laptops, all over the wireless network.
The printer is located 2 rooms from our wireless router, but in over 6 month I never had to deal with connection problems to our router. As a side note, I even could set it up to print (wireless) from my playstation 3 (PS3).
What I like in particular: No more cables plugging in and out from our laptops. I'm able to print from different computers. It has 2 paper trays (i.e. letter and photo paper loaded). Easy to operate scanner for pictures or documents, I also like that I can scan documents directly into pdf format (great for emails and electronic filing of documents). To make regular or color copies is also easy.
What I don't like as much: Nothing really, of course there is always room for improvement and it doesn't make coffee ;)

I initiated operation of the Lexmark Prevail Pro 705 on Nov. 19, 2009 and it has worked in all aspects. I have not done photo printing yet. It is a fast and quiet and dependable machine. This product has a 5 year guarantee and lifetime phone support which is far better then any other printer company offers. It is one of a new line of recently released machines. The best feature is that I called up Tech support and he took over my computer and downloaded the new drivers and software and set up the wireless which was time consuming. The most difficult thing I had to do was cut the wrappings off the inks. The first tech person was incompetent and actually hung up on me which was fortunate because the second tech person was excellent and helped me test all the features. I paid $99.99 from Buy.com on Amazon site. Delivery was free and fast. The packaging was excellent. The comparative model is the HP 6500 which has a lot of negative reviews on Amazon site. This machine is replacing my HP 6310 which wound up requesting "reset power" and HP support was no help in resolving issues. HP's are not made like they were in the past. I have used all the features except photo printing and they are faster and quieter and work much better then HP. Much better customer support. Lexmark is going for leadership in this field and with their new line will succeed. I should have bought a second one at this price. This is an N wireless with full duplex.

I don't know how they can advertise it as such a spectacular handset! The speaker phone is hardly "clear" or "loud." Furthermore, the phone drops to 2/3 charge almost immediately after answering it. They also claim that it is "high definition" sound which is far from it. I haven't heard a phone sound this poor since the middle 80s. It still doesn't have online phone list capability. It was also supposed to support Google voice which is still not an option.

Overall, it is of cheap quality. The software to support mulitple handsets was was supposed to be released December 1, then December 8, December, 11th, now December 18th.

Dect 6.0: Really? My 5.8 Ghz gets much better range
Online Phonebook: Not yet. Doesn't have the capability yet.
Personal Number: Don't know, can't use multiple handsets.

I bought this printer to replace a similar HP printer (LaserJet 2100M) whose paper transport had become unreliable. My experience with this one has been good and generally consistent with the majority of other reviews here. Based on what I read, I was prepared for a noisy device, but I have been pleasantly surprised. The printer is indeed noisy when initially powered on, but that lasts about 10 seconds, after which the noise level decreases to a low whirr for another 20-30 seconds, followed by complete silence until it is used. The noise level naturally increases when it is actively printing, but the level seems no worse that that of any other home printers I've used that print at the same speed. Some reviewers report having to turn on Quiet Mode, which reduces printing speed. I didn't find that necessary; the default behavior (Quiet Mode off) was fine. Of course, some people are more sensitive to noise than others, and the environment in which the printer is being used is a factor, too.

The physical setup and installation instructions are comprehensive and flawless. I especially like the animations showing how to remove hidden pieces of packing material, which I might not otherwise have gotten right. The configuration process is also very clear (I'm using the network interface, not USB) and worked without a hitch. Well done, HP.

If you plan to use this printer for straight-through printing, be aware that the paper comes straight out of the back, meaning that you must leave sufficient space behind it. To activate th straight-through paper path you simply open a door at the rear within a larger panel that also opens (for clearing jams). It's important to get this right, and while the documentation is explicit, the warning is easy to overlook, and it's easy to make a mistake in practice. Finally, there is no bin to catch the paper coming out the back, so you have to make other provisions. Of course, none of this is relevant for the normal printing path, which deposits the paper in the main output bin on top.

Overall, a very satisfactory printer for my home office.

I just received my scanner today. Wonderful. This puts flat bed scanners to scan slides to shame! I've tried several gadgets and flat bed scanners over the years to scan slides and it was a royal pain in the butt.

The setup was quite easy. After installing the drivers (the support website had the new drivers for Windows 7) I was able to use Gimp to acquire images from the scanner. I was able to scan 4 slides in about 4-5 minutes. Very easy and very quick.

I would recommend if you buy this to use Gimp or make sure to get the newer version of SilverFast if you're using Windows. The SilverFast software provided with the scanner I received didn't recognize the new drivers properly so I can't use the software. I don't care, however, as I can use Gimp to acqure the images from the device.

My trust TI-84 was lost the other day and I needed a graphing calculator for Calculus (I'll be going through about 4 semesters of Calc). Since TI was showing the Nspire as the secessor to the TI84 I figured I'd take the plunge and see if it did the job better. Big mistake. Instead of going into a rant I'll be fair and show what TI did right and what they did wrong.

The good...
- Large higher res screen.
- You can display multipul things on the screen at once.
- Comes with a TI-84 keyboard that literally turns it into a TI-84. Useful for tests that don't allow the nspire and if your instructor is using the 84.
- WYSIWYG, basically you don't have to memorize calculator syntax.
- Runs faster than previous calculators

The bad...
- Larger than previous TI calculators
- In order to see the screen clearly it must be either very birght or you must look almost directly down at it.
- Virtually no programming support, so unlike previous TI graphing calcs you won't be able to add functionality via 3rd party apps unless TI fixes this.
- Complicates simple problems. Problems that were simple to do on the TI-84 are much harder.
- Intstead of the 2nd key, those functions are seperate buttons raised above the normal keys. These green buttons always get in the way when you're entering problems. They should have stuck the the 2nd key fintionality.
- Under it's new skin the funtionality is the same as the TI-84
- Since it looks like a PDA it makes instructors nervous that you're cheating on tests.
- The cover is too tight, they designed it so that the cover pushes into the raised keys scratching the inside of the cover and I have a feeling it will break off the keys before long.
- Take a long time to load after switching out the keypads.
- Not every TI-84 app works with the TI-84 keypad/mode.

Overall it the internal hardware is a huge improvement, it holds a lot of potential. Unfortunatly between the poorly designed keypad and software, it falls flat. Stick with the TI-84 for now. I'm not going to ship it back to return it, my father does not even drive to get that done, but beware when you put something in search they don't always show you what you wanted but sometimes it's very similar. It looked just like it. The phone itself is fine, if I had wanted one that was not a speakerphone, but my 87 year old father has plenty of those - he needed a speakerphone. This is not. My first big disappointment with Amazon, again partially my fault, but I was in a hurry to find him what he needed. I am an older, final year photography student. I usually shoot with film cameras and process and print my own stuff in one of our darkrooms, but have been recently seriously delving into digital work. Our university digital print lab uses the R1800 model, but I was tired of sharing printer time with multiple students and having to be confined to building hours of operation so I decided to invest in my own printer. I, like some of the other reviewers here, was a little hesitant in purchasing the R1900 newer model because of some of the negative reviews, but knowing that some people just get dud merchandise at times and having a pretty good experience with the printer at school, decided to take the plunge. I realize this is an early review since I just received the printer yesterday and set it up today, so I'll write more at a later date as an update.

I have an iMac with OS 10.5.8. There was a separate mini sheet in the box for Snow Leopard users and a sheet for OS X with instructions for higher than 10.4 users so I followed that one, expecting to have to download annoying drivers, etc. and expecting the worst. I didn't have to do anything like that. I ran the installation CD and followed the directions and had the whole printer up and running in about 20 minutes--no driver searching and downloading at all. A piece of cake.

The quality is just as good, if not better, than what the R1800 printer produces at school, which is the great quality my photo professor is always looking for and grading on. As far as the gloss optimizer comments, I have not noticed a bit of difference in the quality of prints with it on or off so I leave it off--hence, it doesn't run out as fast as others are commenting about. Since I like the added contrast, I use Epson 5-star glossy for my 8.5x11 prints and 5-star luster for my 13x19 prints. Even my professor says to leave the optimizer off, so there you go.
